High quality expanded PTFE fiber braided square gland packing impregnated with heatproof lubricant to reduce friction. This suits a wide range of indsutries and applications due to the versatile nature of PTFE. Mainly used in valves and pumps as a valve gland packing or a pump gland packing (both piston and rotary pumps) to form a seal between the body and shaft. As a part of a good maintenance programe existing PTFE gland packings should be inspected and replaced when worn. Available in 1m and 8m lengths.

  • What is PTFE Gland Packing?

PTFE gland packing is a square flexible fiber braid made from Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE is its common abbreviated name). This is also commonly called Teflon gland packing but they all mean the same thing.

  • How does Teflon Gland Packing work?

PTFE Gland Packing is used as a gland seal material most commonly in valves and pumps. It seals under compression while allowing an object to pass through. The easiest way to conceptualize this is a disc/gate moving up and down in a valve without the internal media coming out. This is accomplished by the PTFE gland packing forming a seal around the internal surface of the disc/gate.

  • How long will my PTFE Gland Packing last?

PTFE has great longevity properties but it really depends upon the media and application. For instance a gland seal on a valve stuffing box where it does not have a high cycle rate will last a very long time whereas a seal on a rotary pump at high revolutions and pressure will wear at a faster rate.

  • How do I install Teflon Packing?

This depends upon the application where it is being installed. First you must make sure the surface where the seal is going is clean and the correct size packing gland has been chosen. This can be sized off the existing gland packing or measured with verniers. The packing should then be inserted and where the two gland packing ends meet cut at 45 degrees to each other. This will give you a better seal than if they were both cut at 90 degree angles.

  • What are typical uses of PTFE Gland Packing?

PTFE gland packings are used very commonly in the valve and pump industry. There are many kinds of valves that use gland seals and generally in pumps it will be piston or rotary versions.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.

  • What warranty do I get?

All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all products leave our warehouse tested and inspected so there are rarely any issues.
