Inner Ring (also know as inner bolt circle) expanded PTFE gaskets are made from 100% multi-directionally expanded PTFE. Because it is dimensionally stable, it is ideal for many flange conditions. It has all of the benefits of conventional PTFE without the creep and cold flow that is commonly associated with this material. It is soft to work with while still retaining very good strength.

  • What is an Expanded PTFE Inner Ring Gasket?

An Expanded PTFE Inner Ring Gasket is a gasket that is cut to encompass only the inner ring of the sealing surface which is roughly the area from within the bold circle diameter to the edge of the pipe/valve opening. The gasket is made out of 100% Expanded PTFE which gives it great sealing and media resistance characteristics.

  • How does an Expanded PTFE Inner Ring Gasket work?

This works by the Expanded PTFE forming a soft layer between two hard surfaces which allows a seal to form. Expanded PTFE is quite soft and flexible while still retaining strength which allows it to easily form a seal where other harder gaskets may not.

  • How long will my Inner Ring Expanded PTFE Gasket last?

This really depends upon the environment, media, temperature and pressure where the gasket is installed. However, Expanded PTFE has a very long life time and will even handle reuse unlike other gasket materials that need to be replaced when the flanges or pipework are removed. It also tends not to bind to surfaces when under pressure so it does not need to be scraped off when removed unlike some other materials.

  • What are typical uses of an Inner Ring Expanded PTFE Gasket?

These have a very wide range of use cases and are very popular on low pressure steam and hygienic environments where a gasket that does not contaminate the media is needed. They are commonly used everywhere as some technicians just prefer to work with this material as it is very easy and clean to use.

  • How do I install an Inner Ring PTFE Gasket?

The two mating surfaces which the Expanded PTFE will form the seal between need to be thoroughly cleaned to make sure there is no dirt or debris on the faces. Once this is achieved and the surfaces look clean the two ends can be bought together with the Expanded PTFE forming the middle seal. Care must be taken to ensure the Expanded PTFE is concentric in the pipe so it is not in the flow path and is mating on the sealing surfaces only. The Inner Ring Gasket sits inside the bolt circle diameter of the flange face so it must be carefully inserted to ensure it does not move when bringing the faces together. Once this is achieved the pipe/flange bolts can be tightened in a diagonal direction to ensure an even sealing pressure is achieved. If you need further instructions please see our full Gasket installation guide here.

  • How long will my product take to get to me?

This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.

  • What warranty do I get?

All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all Inner Circle Expanded PTFE Gaskets are inspected so there are rarely any issues. These gaskets are cut onsite in our factory using our CNC machine so they are dimensionally very accurate.
