Protector Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate protectors are used to protect the glass tube from accidental knocks and mechanical damage that may lead to the glass tube bursting. These 3 Panel Polycarbonate Protectors are available to suit any length glass as the clear UV2 polycarbonate panes are cut to length to suit the specific Water Gauge Mount set up. The stainless steel bottom plate has threaded holes to allow the threaded rod to secure into the bottom plate, where as the stainless top plate has a clearance hole to allow for the thread rod to pass through and secure with a nut. For sizes over 1m a middle plate is added to enforce rigidity. For vessel centres below 200mm the protector plate will have to be assembled on the unit as it will not have enough approach angle to slide over the gauge mounts.
These protectors for boiler gauge mounts are typically measured in vessel centers not the actual length of the protector itself. Vessel centers is the length between the center holes of the top and bottom gauge mounts. If you are not sure, you can order one that will be bigger than what is needed for your application and cut the polycarbonate down to size with a hacksaw. Threaded booker rod is used to hold the plates together so this can be adjusted to any length.

What is an Gauge Mount Protector?
A Boiler Gauge Mount Protector is designed to protect the sight glass that runs between the bottom and top mount on the side of a boiler. This sight glass is usually made of borosilicate glass and shows the water level within the boiler. This glass could break if it is accidentally hit so the protector sits over this mount while letting the user still see the level contained within the glass tube.
How does a Boiler Sight Glass Protector Work?
The protector sits over the bottom and top mounts and is held in place by its recessed design as well as a grub screw. It has three polycarbonate clear panels that are each 10mm thick protecting the front and sides. The back faces the boiler so is already protected. This will absorb the impact of an accidental strike and not pass this through to the sight glass contained within. We use polycarbonate rather than glass or acrylic as it is 200 times stronger than glass and has better impact resistance (250 times better impact resistance than safety glass) and is 30 times stronger than acrylic.
How long will my Sight Glass Protector Last?
These sight glass protectors will usually last a very long time as long as they are looked after. There is no reason this should not last the life of the boiler.
How do I install a Boiler Sight Glass Protector?
The boiler sight glass protector should be tilted on an angle upwards to slide the top end of the protector over the top gauge mount nut. Once this is over and pushed up as far as it goes it can then be rotated down so it is parallel to the sight glass and slid over the bottom mount nut. Once it is in place the grub screw should be tightened so it is fixed to the gauge mount. To remove the reverse process is performed.
What are typical uses of a Gauge Mount Protector?
These are used to protect boiler level gauges (sight glasses). They are designed to fit over Klinger AB12, Hawleys BGM, Mala and other brands of boiler gauge mounts that use a similar top nut to fix the sight glass.
How long will my product take to get to me?
This depends upon where you are based and the freight method chosen. If the express freight option is selected it is usually next day delivery to metropolitan areas in Australia for under 5kg. If free freight has been selected it will go by road freight which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days depending upon your location. It usually averages 3 days.
What warranty do I get?
All of our products come standard with a 12 month warranty. The good news is we have very strict quality controls and all gauge mount protectors leave our warehouse tested (full material and testing certificates to API598 are available) and inspected so there are rarely any issues.
